The Boys and Girls Club in collaboration with the Alameda Unified School District proposes to construct a 25,000 square foot Youth Development Center located at 1900 Third Street. The Youth Development Center includes a gymnasium, game room, computer room, computer lab, arts and crafts studio, dental and health screening clinic, teen center, counseling office, performing arts studio and stage, commercial kitchen, audio/visual production facility, and community service offices for non profits who serve youth. The facility will be located on Alameda Unified School District property that has been leased for 99-years to the Boys and Girls Club since April 19, 2005.
California State Law requires that Alameda Unified School District conduct environmental review for the proposed site development. Environmental review examines the nature and extent of any potentially significant adverse effect that could occur if a project is approved and implemented. Based on the Initial Study, district staff has determined that with the mitigation measures proposed in the initial study, the project described above would not have a significant effect on the environment.
Notice has been sent to all adjacent property owners to inform them of the Alameda Unified District’s intent to adopt a Mitigated Negative Declaration for the proposed project at their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at City Council Chambers, City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue, Alameda, CA 94501.
